Absenteeism: The Real Winner of 2024 Elections

--

In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, approximately 245 million Americans were eligible to vote. Of these, about 158 million people participated, this means that 87 million Americans did not cast their vote and, therefore, the real winner of the elections was absenteeism.

In can also be argued that the real winner, by default, was the corporate world.

Unlike human beings, corporations can live indefinitely. This is the main reason corporations have become so powerful, and they will only continue to hold greater power. This is concerning not only because it is not a sustainable path but also because of the dangers corporate influence poses to democratic principles.

Concentration of Power

Economic Domination: Corporations, particularly multinational ones, wield immense economic power that can overshadow government authority in certain sectors. Their wealth allows them to shape policy decisions to favor their interests over public welfare.

Lobbying and Campaign Financing: Corporations invest billions in lobbying and political donations, leading to a disproportionate influence on lawmakers. This undermines the principle of “one person, one vote,” giving wealthier entities more sway in the political process.
