When I was invited to talk about disruption forces and disruptive businesses/practices, I began to think about all types of disruptions that we, as humans, have been through and then wondered about the biggest/greatest disruption we have experienced in the history of humanity.
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
If you said the Big Bang……, Bingo!
Congratulations, you are a critical thinker. Now, let’s push it further. Think about the “force” behind this amazing event. What do you think it was?
Since there was not a thing before time and space. Not even time or space themselves.
So, what was “it” that out of nothing gave rise to everything?
Well, behind anything and everything there is a power source, i.e., a purpose. Some times we can see clearly the purpose behind some things. But, most things happen in ways that we have no clue about the immediate purpose, let alone the higher purpose.
Yet, nothing happens without a purpose. Nothing at all. Everything has a purpose.
I’d like to think that behind a purpose there is the greatest and most disruptive power source in the universe.
Have you guessed what it is already?
Allow me to digress for a moment. To develop just a single trait of a beautiful mind takes much effort and time.
Now, how much time and effort does it take to answer a simple question such as “How are you”?
In most cases, it takes no effort/time at all, the answer just comes out spontaneously without even thinking about it.
Most people answer this question based on however/whatever they feel at that particular moment.
This may seem a trivial question. However, it reveals the tip of the iceberg that sinks most people’s life into mediocrity, namely, unconscious self-conditioning!
Although in most cases the question “How are you”? is just a polite continuation of “Hello,” and does not necessarily mean that the person asking the question is really interested in our wellbeing, nor that our answer indicates how we really are/feel, it does provide a window towards our daily perception of life, especially, if our answer did not require any effort/thinking, i.e., it just came out spontaneously.
For over two decades I have observed how most people answer this simple question and it never ceases to amaze me how most of them choose to answer the typical “Good,” “Fine,” “OK” or even worse.
Rarely, people choose to answer “Great,” “Marvelous,” “Fantastic.” Especially, if they are going through a difficult time.
This simple observation made me realise how easily we, humans, seem to give up one of life’s greatest treasures, namely, our ability to choose!
Notice that I have underlined “choose” because we all have the option to choose how we answer that question. Yet, most people seem to unconsciously forfeit the option to choose.
Giving up our ability to choose is tragic indeed. But, it is even more tragic when done without any hesitation, unconsciously!
This prompted me to do further research on human behavior beyond the conventional directive correlation between the human and his/her environment from conception onwards.
Although we are all born with a tendency towards a more optimistic or pessimistic behavior, and the environment also plays a crucial role in reinforcing or eliminating the innate tendencies, at the end of the day, we all have the ability to choose but only if we are aware of it!
This is the bottom line and the great news, it is just a matter of choice!
Yes, staying awake and exercising our ability to choose will allow us to tap into the universe’s most disruptive and powerful force: attitude!
But wait, what is the force behind attitude? I guess it’s desire.
So, next time somebody asks you “How are you”? Make sure you choose the best option!
Why choose less when you deserve the best. Yes, you can. Especially, if you are feeling sick or have a problem, because that’s precisely when you need the most to be at your best. Otherwise, you’ll no longer have one problem but two.
And no, this is not about self-delusion. Actually, it is about self-positive-reinforcement and it is precisely when you are facing a problem, or when you are feeling sick, that you have the greatest opportunity to exercise your ability to tap into this amazing power source to turn the situation around and begin to develop tropophilia!
To the Health of Your Positive Attitude!
