Cultural Entropy

One of the worst tragedies in business is when a fresh and crisp start-up — with its naturally enhancive and tropophilic initial culture — begins to grow and becomes a major company. In the process, slowly but surely, cultural entropy begins to manifest itself, as it becomes ever more restrictive and tropophobic, losing most, it not all, of its enhancive and tropophilic culture*.

Cultural Entropy — the natural tendency for complex systems to degrade over time — is unforgiving.

Can it be avoided?

You bet!

But it requires not only a thorough understanding of organizational design principles, but also a strong desire and commitment to overcome entropy and maintain a day-one-always attitude through Tropophilia.

The whole process is similar to the relationship of a couple, initially, during the engagement, everything is enhancive, tropophilic and lovely. Then, after the honey moon, things begin to become more and more restrictive and tropophobic.

This relationship decline is natural but it can be avoided, again, with a great deal of effort and desire.

In today’s business environment, riddled with increasing relevant uncertainties and polarizing complexities at the social, environmental, and economic level, the role of efficiency is greater than ever.
