The Artful Balance Of Living Wisely

Human behavior never ceases to amaze me, for I believe there is nothing more complex in the universe than our feelings and emotions.

I have often pondered how wonderful it would be if we could adopt into our daily lives the same joyful and carefree attitude we experiment when traveling to a vacation destination knowing that any inconvenience is temporary, for it is just a matter of time before we reach a dreamed vacation.

Have you ever wondered the same thing?

It is a matter of fact that we are literally traveling through time and space at speeds beyond our wildest dreams and yet, we seem to live totally unaware of it. And once we get back from our vacation, we feel the “need” to position ourselves into a daily routine that should make our lives easier as if we were going to live for an eternity.

Being able to balance short-term needs and wants and long-term ones, is certainly an artful act that requires, first and foremost, the full awareness about the highest and fundamental purpose of our existence as human beings.

When knowing that our entire life is nothing but a blink of an eye, we could, on one hand, adopt a careless attitude about everything thinking that nothing is worth the effort for we are going to die anyways. On the other hand, we could feel anxious and desperate trying to accomplish as much as possible before our time is over thinking that Death is so certain about her victory that she gives us the advantage of a lifetime.

In other words, we could be either totally careless and irresponsible on one extreme of our behavior spectrum, and obsessed and anxious on the other extreme.

Balancing these extreme positions is certainly an art that requires much wisdom and the continuous renewal of our mindset based on our daily circumstances without ever losing sight of the highest and most fundamental purpose of our existence.
